The N-series was manufactured as the line of multimedia smartphone family by Nokia. One of them is the Nokia N95 that has been announced in released in March 2007. The notable points of the phone are the two-way sliding construction to access either media playback keys at the upper side or a numeric/alphabetic keypad at the bottom. It is the successor of the N93i and the predecessor of N96. Other phones included in this series are the N73 Music Editon, N97, N8, and the latest N9 and N950.
The Nokia N95 comes with the dual slide directions design. The upwards slide exposes the numeric keypad, whereas the downwards slide reveals the four control keys that consist of Backward, Stop, Play/Pause and Forward keys. The Fast Forward or Rewind can be performed through a long press of the Backward or Forward keys. The dimension is about 99 mm in tallness, 53 mm in wideness, 21 mm in thickness and it weighs about 120 grams. The display packs a 2.6 inches TFT LCD screen with the resolution of 240x320 pixels and it allows a landscape screen mode. It also has a built-in accelerometer intended for video stabilization and captured photo or image orientation.
The value-added feature of Nokia N95 is the main camera of 5 MP with Carl Zeiss optics, resolution of 2592 x 1944 pixels, autofocus, red-eye reduction, CMOS sensor and LED flash. It is also capable of video recording with VGA quality at 30 frames per second. The device also supports for video calling with its secondary camera (front-facing QVGA/CIF camera).
In terms of performance, the phone has been equipped with CPU of Dual ARM 11 332 MHz processor and 3D Graphics HW Accelerator. It boasts memory of 64 MB RAM and internal storage of 160 MB and it can be expanded with a micro SD card that supports for up to 8 GB (hot swap). The device uses the Symbian OS 9.2 (S60 third edition user interface) as its operating system.
For multimedia needs, the Nokia N95 comes with the adequate music/video application. The music player supports for MP3/WMA/WAV/RA/AAC/M4A audio formats, while the video player is capable of playing the WMV/RV/MP4/3GP video formats. The music application provides an N-series Music Player that includes variety of features such as Shuffle and Repeat modes, Album Art displays, Equalizer (presets, visualizations, stereo widening, loudness, balance) and playlist management.
Overall, the Nokia N95 has been equipped with great multimedia features especially for middle range photography and music/video player. It also has a comfortable dimension and weight with its unique slider for a mobile phone and portable music player. However, there are still main disadvantage like the minimum specification of its processor and memory. [IS]
