After launching the Dream and the Magic, HTC launched the HTC Hero in 2009.
This model consists of GSM version and CDMA version. The main differences of these two phones, beside its compatible network, are the weight, the battery and the operating system.

In term of form factor, HTC Hero is a slate Smartphone with track ball navigation. Its design is considered as the combination of elements from previous phone’s design. The size resembles the Magic, but the corners resemble the Dream.

The device can be classified as a thin mobile phone since it has 112 mm in height, 56.2 mm width, 14.35 mm in depth, and 135 grams in weight. Hero is available in several colors namely brown, white, graphite, black, and pink.

The HTC Hero is equipped with Sense UI as the new creation of HTC after the TouchFlo UI. The Sense UI now provides more features such as auto-complete and auto-correct in typing mode and the ease of switching between portrait and landscape mode.

The display has a 3.2-inch TFT capacitive touch-screen with Gorilla Glass display, Multi-touch input method, accelerometer sensor for auto-rotate and ambient light sensors. It also has 16 million of colors with the resolution of 320x480 pixels. The phone comes with the 5 megapixels camera (2592x1944p) with autofocus, geo-tagging and touch focus. It also can record a CIF video at 15 fps.

The HTC Hero is equipped with a 528 MHz ARM 11 processor (Qualcomm MSM7200A chipset), Adreno 130 GPU and 288 MB RAM of memory. The internal storage is about 512 MB of ROM and external storage of micro SD card up to 32 GB. The phone uses the Android v.1.5 (Cupcake) operating system.

The phone supports for 3G network with the speed up to 7.2 Mbps (HSDPA) and up to 2 Mbps (HSUPA). It also features Wi-Fi, Bluetooth v.2.1 with A2DP, micro USB and A-GPS. Other features include in this phone are the Voice memo, Digital Compass, YouTube application, Facebook application, Google Talk, Google Search, Gmail, Maps, Calendar, Scenes quick profile switcher, and dedicated search key.

Overall, the HTC Hero is a rich-featured Smartphone, for example it has good design of home screen widgets, auto-complete and auto-correct features, Android Market, multi-touch capability, flash support, 3.5mm headset jack and social network integration. However, the phone has no front-facing camera for video calling, it is occasionally sluggish, the outdated Android version, and the downloaded applications must be saved only in internal memory of the phone.
