The BlackBerry Curve 8520 (commonly called Gemini) is one of mobile phone manufactured by Research In Motion (RIM) originated from Canada. The design is not much different from the types of previous BlackBerry, but the difference is the trackball used by previous BlackBerry replaced by an optical trackpad which is usually used on a laptop. This device is also the first BlackBerry Smartphone to have dedicated media keys. As a result, the handset provides more convenience ways in controlling the music and the video player. The 512MHz processor allows this Smartphone to operate optimally than its predecessors.
BlackBerry Curve 8520 Smartphone still has many weaknesses such as there is no 3G connectivity, but the design looks slim and reliable optical trackpad. Other specifications are the same as its predecessors such as Wi-Fi, EDGE, 2 MP camera (without autofocus and LED flash), but unlike the Bold and Curve 8320, BlackBerry 8520 was not equipped with an internal GPS receiver. For that reason, it seems that the BlackBerry Curve 8520 Smartphone is categorized into an entry-level Smartphone.
The internal memory of Blackberry Curve 8520 is somewhat small compared the phone size i.e. only 256 MB (shared). Meanwhile, applications from outside could only be installed to internal memory. But, it is still supported with micro SD card slot with a capacity of 16GB maximum, just like the Tour and the Javelin.
For the connectivity, Blackberry Curve 8520 provides a Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and microUSB data cable. About the performance, each medium is capable of working in maximum performance. Like most BlackBerry models, internet browsing capabilities of this device using BlackBerry typical browser. For its network, the BlackBerry Gemini only support EDGE network that was only at the 10th class.
Blackberry Curve 8520 added with same batteries used with the Javelin and the Tour i.e. lithium ion battery. The capacity of battery power is a little different, for 8520 to apply for 1150 mAh battery and for the Tour to apply 1400 mAh battery. Once you charge it, the battery can last two days with the standard usage.
In conclusion, the plus of the Blackberry Curve 8520 is the features of Pushmail, WiFi, 3.5 mm audio slot, and trackpad. The minuses of this smartphones are lack of 3G network, there is no GPS internal receiver, the QWERTY keypad that looks smaller and you can only save downloaded applications to the main memory of this smartphone.
