In November 25, 2011, Research In Motion (RIM) held the first launching of the BlackBerry Bold 9790 (Bellagio) in Jakarta, Indonesia. This smartphone is the direct successor of BB Bold 9780 (Onyx 2) so that it is also called Onyx 3. This is also considered as the great alternative for the BB Bold Touch and Type (9900) that was recently released. The company did not announce yet about when this device will be available worldwide. So let us take a peek at the following technical specifications of this good-looking handset.
Design and Display
In terms of form factor, BlackBerry Bold 9790 has a stylish design and it is equipped with responsive touch-screen and excellent QWERTY keyboard for more accurate typing functionality (similar with the BlackBerry Dakota). The overall body measures 110 x 60 x 11.4 mm and it weighs about 107 grams. The screen measures 2.45 inches (TFT capacitive touchscreen - 16 million colors) with the resolution of 480x360 pixels. The screen is smaller as compared to the 9900 model and also the display quality is poorer than the 9900 (640x480 pixels).
Performance
The BlackBerry Bold 9790 boasts 1 Ghz processor with the 768 MB RAM for a great overall performance. Other good things about this device will definitely be the BlackBerry OS 7 that has been pre-installed to provide more amazing and user-friendly interface.
Multimedia
Relating to the connectivity needs, the phone has been added with advanced multimedia features like the video player that supports for WMV, MP4, H.263, and H.264 formats as well as the music player which facilitates for MP3, WMA, WAV, eAAC, and FLAC formats. To store the audio/video files, the device provides the spacious 8 GB internal storage that can be expanded with the external storage of micro SD card up to 32 GB. Unfortunately, it does not come with the Stereo FM Radio as the alternative music player.
For the high-end smartphone, it only has the 5 megapixels camera that is very unfortunate since there are devices out there that has been equipped with the high quality camera but with the lower price. It also does not support for video calling or video conferencing as it lacks of front-facing camera.
Connectivity
For the connectivity necessities, BlackBerry Bold 9790 works with 3G network through HSDPA up to 7.2 Mbps and also the HSUPA network up to 5.76 Mbps. As a complement, the phone also supports for Wi-Fi connectivity, Bluetooth v.2.1 (A2DP+EDR) and micro USB 2.0 version.
Battery
For the power management, this device is packed with the standard battery of Li-ion (JM-1) that is able to provide the stand-by time up to 430 hours (2G mode) and 408 hours (3G mode). For the talk-time duration, it delivers up to 310 hours in 2G mode and 320 hours in 3G mode.
Other impressive features of this smartphone including Near Field Communication (NFC), SNS application, BlackBerry Maps, new Digital Compass, A-GPS, HTML web browser, MMS, Email, Push Mail, Instant Messaging (IM), Voice command, Predictive text input, Games (downloadable), and unlimited Phonebook entries.
Final Thoughts
Definitely, BlackBerry Bold 9790 comes with the expensive price as it has been pre-loaded the most advanced features and innovative design. But it is still worth to buy as the smartphone will bring the great overall performance and stability. But there is minor disadvantage about this phone namely the absence of front-facing/secondary camera.
