The LG mobile company continued to release the LG Optimus S as one of the touch-screen smartphone labeled under the Optimus series. This phone was manufactured as the CDMA device, so it will not work on any GSM network worldwide. It supports for 3G network via CDMA2000 1xEV-DO and the 2G network via dual-band CDMA (800/1900) networks. The phone was announced in October 2010, and released in December 2010.
The design of LG Optimus S is quite identical with Optimus One model. At the front side of the phone, there are four physical buttons belonging to Home, Menu, Back and Search buttons. At the bottom, there is USB port for charging, while at the top side, there are Power key and a 3.5 mm headset jack. The phone has 3.2 inches TFT capacitive touch-screen with 256.000 colors and the resolution of 320 x 480 pixels. It also packs a multi-touch capability, proximity sensor and an internal accelerometer sensor.
As an entry-level smartphone, LG Optimus S boasts a 600 MHz processor and Android OS 2.2 (Froyo) as its operating system. Some great features of this OS are the better interface, customizable Home screens, integrated social network application, the capability of saving files in external memory card and many others.
In terms of multimedia factor, LG Optimus S has a 3.15 megapixels camera with autofocus and the resolution of 2048x1536 pixels (maximum). It also can capture video with at VGA quality. The phone comes with the media player that supports for many media files such as WMV, MP4, H.263, H.264, DivX, XviD (video files) and MP3, WMA, WAV, eAAC (music files). To store media files, the phone provides an external memory of micro SD card that supports for up to 32 GB. For the power management, it uses the standard battery of Li-ion 1500 mAh that delivers up to 5 hours of talk time.
Other functional features of LG Optimus S include voice command/dial, Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync, predictive text input, voice memo, text and multimedia messaging, digital compass, YouTube application, Google Talk, Picasa integration, Google Search, Gmail, Maps, Document viewer, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.1, and a-GPS.
Even though the LG Optimus S is considered as an entry-level smartphone, it is already packed with quite impressive features such as the 3.2 megapixels camera, Wi-Fi capability, and 3G capability via CDMA EV-DO network.
