The company continues to create the very compact Android smartphone namely the HTC Desire C. This smartphone can be considered as the close brother of HTC Explorer or Wildfire S simply because they have the rather identical dimension and style. So now, let’s take a closer look at the following specs overview of this smartphone to determine its positive and negative aspects.

Design

In terms of overall design, the HTC Desire C comes with the typical slate touchscreen style with the very compact design. The device measures 107.2 mm in height, 60.6 mm in width and 12.3 mm in thickness and you will notice that this phone looks shorter as compared to others in the market. Weighing about 98 grams (with battery), this device is obviously lighter than the Explorer. The display measures 3.5 inches HVGA capacitive touchscreen with 16 million colors, 320x480 pixels and the lower pixel density of only 165 ppi. Having this display spec, the display may not deliver the good enough viewing angle and outdoor visibility as well.

General Performance

People will be very disappointed when notice that this smartphone only sports the 600 Mhz processor with 512 MB of RAM. But then again, the device has been pre-installed with the latest Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) combined with the latest HTC Sense UI 4.0. For the internal storage, you will get the 4 GB of storage space along with the 25 GB Dropbox space for two years and microSD card slot support (up to 32 G and SD 2.0 compatible). As the power supplier, the standard battery of Li-ion 1230 mAh has been bundled with this phone.

Camera Spec

For the picture taking needs, users can utilize the 5 megapixels camera with auto-focus, geo tagging and Easy to Shoot and Share feature. This camera can also record video and capture image with the maximum resolution of 2592 x 1944 pixels. Unfortunately, there will be no secondary camera for video calls.

Connectivity

The device runs on the quad-band GSM to access the 2G network and dual-band HSDPA to access the 3G network with the internet speed of up to 7.2 Mbps. There will be also the complete connectivity features which include Bluetooth 4.0 (A2DP), Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n (hotspot), micro USB 2.0 and the optional Near Field Communication (NFC) feature. The default browser supports for HTML and Adobe Flash so that you can enjoy the full web browsing experience. There are also the complete Google services like Google Search, Maps, GMail, YouTube, Calendar and Google Talk.

Price, Pros and Cons

The selling price of HTC Desire C is about $256 without contract. The benefits of having this smartphone are the pocket-friendly design, latest Android platform, spacious internal storage with 25 GB free Dropbox storage, latest Bluetooth version, NFC support and PC-like web browsing feature. On the downsides, this smartphone comes equipped with a very low processor so that it may be sluggish every now and then to perform even the simplest tasks or lightest apps and games. Also, the phone only boasts the mediocre camera and users will not be able to perform video calling via 3G network as the phone lacks front-facing camera. [IS]
