The Chinese mobile device manufacturer, Huawei, has initially introduced the Huawei MediaPad 10 FHD to the public in MWC 2012. This device has been considered to be the true competitor for other slate tablet computer out there for example Asus Padfone, Lenovo IdeaPad and even the new generation of iPad. So now, let’s take a closer look at the following specs overview of Huawei MediaPad 10 FHD to know whether this tablet has the possibilities to take part in the high-end tablet showdown.
The design of Huawei MediaPad 10 FHD is generally identical with some other slate tablet in the market which boasts the slim design and lighter weight featuring only 598 grams of heaviness. This tablet is apparently lighter with its aluminum unibody casing as compared to new iPad, but however it’s a bit heavier when opposed to Asus Transformer Pad Infinity 700. Moreover, the tablet comes with slimmer dimension having only 8.8 mm of thickness.
Regarding the display technology, this tablet comes with bigger screen size namely the 10 inches capacitive touchscreen with IPS LCD that has the high-definition screen resolution of 1920x1200 pixels and 226 ppi of density. With this pixel density, the tablet should deliver the brighter and colorful image as it is actually above the average of other tablets’ densities. Then again, the new iPad comes with the higher density having the 264 ppi along with LED-backlit feature.
In terms of hardware specs, Huawei MediaPad 10 FHD comes packed with the quad-core 1.5 Ghz processor (K3V2) combined with the 2 GB of RAM. Having this processor spec, the company claimed that this will match the NVidia Tegra 3 processor as owned by Transformer Pad Infinity. For the operating system, this tablet has been loaded with Android 4.0 that may deliver more responsive touch navigation and also allow for unlock screen customization.
For the storage space, Huawei only offers the 8 GB internal storage with the microSD card slot for the memory expansion with the maximum capacity of 32 GB. The new iPad comes with the three storage options namely 16, 32 and 64 GB but with no microSD card slot.
The 8 megapixels camera of MediaPad can capture image with the resolution of 3264x2448 pixels along with the autofocus, LED flash and geo-tagging feature. The camcorder allows for HD video recording (1080p) and there is also the 1.3 megapixels front camera for video calls. iPad only sports 5 MP camera and VGA secondary camera but it also comes with 1080p HD camcorder combined with the video stabilization feature.
Towards the connectivity and internet speed, both tablets comes equipped with rather similar specs namely the 3G network through HSDPA and 4G network over the LTE. The MediaPad offers one benefit namely the GSM voice communication, SMS, and MMS support which don’t exist on new iPad.
In conclusion, Huawei MediaPad 10 FHD has what it takes to match or even beat the new iPad especially in terms of processor, RAM, camera specs and also the sleek design. On the other hand, this tablet has not matched yet in terms of the maximum storage space and also the amount of pixel density. [IS]
