The American multinational telecommunication company, Motorola, has been announced the powerful Motorola Defy in October 1, 2010. The company claimed that Defy is designed to overcome the problems of the hyper-active lifestyle. It is well-known for its dust-proof, water-resistant, impact and scratch resistant thanks to its tough Gorilla Glass screen and its port covers (battery, USB, and audio jack).

Motorola Defy is powered with Android 2.1 (Eclair) operating system and it is upgradable to Android 2.2 (Froyo). It boasts a processor of 800 Mhz Cortex-A8 and GPU PowerVR SGX 530 with 512 MB of RAM. It is added with an internal storage of 2 GB and can be added with removable storage microSDHC supports up to 32 GB.

In form factor, this Smartphone has a slate design of touch tablet and measures 107 mm in height, 59 mm in width and 118 grams in weight. The display has an edge to edge high resolution 3.7-inch S-TFT capacitive touch screen (854×480px) for maximum viewing. The camera of 5 megapixels features digital zoom, LED/Supercap flash, automatic focus, geo tags, and image optimization (real-time color effects, scene modes). It is also equipped with accelerometer sensor for UI auto-rotate and proximity sensor for auto turn-off.

For communication and connectivity needs, Motorola Defy supports WCDMA 900/2100, Quad Band GSM with GPRS/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900, HSDPA 7.2 Mbps and HSUPA 2.0 Mbps, data transfer via microUSB 2.0 with transmission rates speed 480 Mbps maximum, Bluetooth v.2.1 with A2DP, DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) to share content wirelessly with other DLNA equipped devices, a 3.5 mm audio jack, and Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n. It also supports Adobe Flash for access to more of what is available on the web.

Other impressive features of this Motorola Defy are the MOTOBLUR UI with Live Widgets and the Crystal Talk Plus. MOTOBLUR allows the device to automatically receive messages or status updates and filtering what is not priority, to securely sync your social media and to manage the battery. But sadly it is not available in all markets. Crystal Talk Plus offers dual microphone intelligent voice amplification and noise filtering.

Voice command/dial, Predictive text input, Voice memo, Digital compass, YouTube application, Google Talk, Google Search, Gmail, Photo viewer/editor, Maps, Active noise cancellation with dedicated mic, Document viewer and Flash Lite support.

Motorola claimed that this phone’s battery of 1540 mAh can last up to 6.8 hours of talk time (continuous) and up to 9.9 days of standby time.

Overall, Motorola Defy almost has all the must-have features of the Smartphone. With its rich-features, durability, lightweight and reliability, this phone should be the best option for those highly active and mobile. However, it does not pack with secondary camera and it has a low memory for a Smartphone.
