BlackBerry Torch 9810 - The Responsive Touch-screen and Slide-out QWERTY Smartphone

The Canadian mobile company, Research In Motion (RIM) released the BlackBerry Torch 9810 in August, 2011. It is also known as the Torch 2 since it is a direct successor of Torch 9800 (the original). The device runs on quad-band GSM networks (850/900/1800/1900) and 3G networks via tri-band HSDPA (850/1900/2100).

The BlackBerry Torch 9810 comes with the slide-out QWERTY keypad design. The device looks solid even though the body was mostly made from plastic. For the navigation system, it boasts an optical track pad instead of track ball. The phone measures 111 x 62 x 14.6 mm in dimension and it weighs about 161 grams.

The display is equipped with 3.2 inches TFT capacitive touch-screen with 16 million colors and the resolution of 480x640 pixels. The input method of this phone is multi-touch and the phone also has the capability of proximity sensor for automatic turn off. Below the screen, there are five typical control buttons include Call, Menu, track pad, Back and End (from left to right).

For the photography needs, the phone was packed with 5 megapixels camera that can capture image with the maximum resolution of 2592Ñ…1944 pixels. It also features LED flash, check quality, geo-tagging, continuous auto-focus, face detection, and image stabilization. It also has the capability of video recording at 720 pixels with check quality feature.

In terms of performance, Torch 9810 boasts 1.2 GHz processor with 768 MB of RAM and 8 GB internal storage. Fortunately, this smartphone uses the latest BlackBerry OS 7 version. For the battery power, the handset is added with standard battery of Lithium-ion 1270 mAh that provides standby time for up to 308 hours (2G mode) or up to 300 hours (3G mode). It also provides the talk time for up to 6.5 hours in 2G mode or up to 5 hours and 50 minutes in 3G mode. For the multimedia needs, the device is capable of providing up to 54 hours of music playback.

The connectivity of this device has been improved. It now supports for faster 3G (HSDPA) network with the speed up to 14.4 Mbps (two times faster than the original). The device is also compatible with GPRS class 10, EDGE class 10 and HSUPA networks. For wireless connectivity, the handset features Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g. For the local connection, it packs Bluetooth v2.1 with A2DP and micro USB 2.0 version.

Other highly functional features of the Torch 9810 are the voice command/dial, predictive text input, document viewer (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and PDF), voice memo, digital compass, and NFC (Near Field Communication) support.

On the whole, the Torch 9810 has been equipped with superior specifications such as fast processor, advanced operating system, great form factor, sharp display and many more. However, there is no significant change for its design as compared to the original version. [IS]
