After releasing the rugged Android tablet series namely Toughpad A1 and B1, the company continues its innovative creation by introducing the Panasonic Eluga Power as one of the waterproof, dust and water resistant smartphones in the market besides Pantech Element. This smartphone is actually the successor of the original Eluga tablet. Thus, let’s take a closer at the following specs overview of Panasonic Eluga Power to figure out whether it is worth to upgrade from the original model.

In terms of design, Panasonic Eluga Power comes with the identical design of the predecessor. You will see that there are smooth curve style and the overall plastic material. From the front view, you’ll notice the 5 inches screen with three touch buttons at the bottom side. Since it boasts the curved edge style on both sides of the phone, you will surely find no dedicated buttons on it. Consequently, the power button and volume rockers are located at the back-side along with the rear-facing camera with single-LED flash indeed. At the very top side, you will get the standard 3.5 mm audio jack and the microUSB port (covered with a flap). As it is IP5& certified, so you will get benefit that the phone is waterproof up to 1 meter and about half an hour. Eventhough the phone is waterproof but the battery is actually removable.

The phone itself measures 136 mm in height, 70 mm in width, 9.6 mm in depth and weighs about 133 grams. With this dimension, this phone is apparently bulkier than the original model but on the other hand it is smaller as compared to Samsung Galaxy Note. The display is packed with multi-touch feature along with the higher resolution (1280x720p) and pixel density (294 ppi) as compared to the original but sadly it lacks OLED display technology.

Towards the general performance, Panasonic Eluga Power sports the dual-core 1.5 Ghz (Krait) processor and 1 GB of RAM. This next generation of Snapdragon S4 (Krait) has been considered to be potential to compete with even the quad-core processor in terms of overall performance. For the operating system, the latest Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) has been pre-installed and it can be one of advantages if you decide to upgrade the original model.

The downgrade occurs in the internet speed as it runs on 3G network through the HSDPA (14.4 Mbps) and HSUPA (5.76 Mbps) while the original Eluga supports for the HSDPA network with the maximum internet speed of up to 21 Mbps. It will also be more pleasant if the phone facilitates for the 4G capability.

In the aspect of multimedia and camera features, the phone comes equipped with the same camera specs namely the 8 megapixels with 3264x2448 pixels and HD video recording feature (1080p). Other improvements will be the existence of microSD card slot for memory expansion with the maximum storage capacity of 32 GB. You will get also the upgraded Bluetooth version namely v.3.0 with A2DP and EDR.

In conclusion, Panasonic Eluga Power offers some benefits including bigger display with higher resolution and pixel density, storage expansion, better processor and OS. However, this phone only boasts the battery of 1800 mAh which can be a drawback especially to power up its huge screen as well as overall performance. So, it is worth to upgrade if you wish for bigger display and quicker processor. [IS]
