According to Tom’s Hardware, Samsung has announced the Galaxy Grand smartphone, a device sporting a 5-inch WVGA screen and runs on Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean.
The smartphone boasts a dual-core 1.2 Ghz processor, 1 GB RAM, an 8-megapixel rear camera capable of 1080p video recording, accompanied by a front-facing 2-megapixel camera.
Samsung's Galaxy Grand offers 8 GB of internal memory with a microSD memory expansion slot, Wi-Fi b/g/n, GPS functionality, as well as an accelerometer, compass and gyroscopic sensor. While it fails to deliver 4G LTE connectivity, the handset connects to high-speed HSPA+ networks.
It'll be sold in two variants -- the I9080 and I9082. The former offers single SIM service, while the latter is able to deliver dual-SIM functionality, subsequently allowing users to utilize two separate cell numbers from the same phone.
Also included are Direct Call, Popup Video, Smart Alert, and S-Voice, which is Samsung's answer to Apple's Siri voice-activated assistant. The Galaxy Grand was announced with no release date or pricing details. That said; expect it to be showcased during CES in January. [IS]
