Geek.com - Two of this holiday season’s biggest games, Assassin’s Creed 3 and Far Cry 3, will see a release across the major consoles and PC. If you’re planning to play them on console you have nothing to worry about, but PC gamers always need to check the specs before buying a game.
Ubisoft has this week revealed the system requirements for both games, and unless your machine is pretty ancient or a budget laptop, you should be able to play them minus a few of the more GPU-heavy graphical effects.
Here’s the minimum sped you’ll need to play each game:
Assassin’s Creed 3
2.66GHz Core 2 Duo or 3GHz Athlon 64X2 6000+
2GB RAM
512MB DirectX 9.0c graphics card with Shader Model 4.0
DirectX 9.0c sound card
Dual-layer DVD drive
17GB hard drive space
Windows Vista/7/8
Far Cry 3
2.66GHz Core 2 Duo or 3GHz Athlon 64X2 6000+
4GB RAM
512MB DirectX 9.0c graphics card with Shader Model 4.0
As you can see, the Far Cry 3 spec is a little lacking, but noticeably requires double the RAM of Assassin’s Creed 3. It’s best to assume the rest of the spec is going to be the same for Far Cry 3 as it is for AS3.
As for recommended specs for each game, Ubisoft would prefer you play the game using a Core i3 CPU at least, 4-8GB of RAM, and a DirectX 11 graphics card with 1GB Video RAM on board. The top end system example is a Core i7 and a Nvidia GTX680 or an AMD Bulldozer FX4150 and Radeon HD7970.
Assassin’s Creed 3 will be released on October 30, while you’ll have to wait until December 4 to get your hands on Far Cry 3. In both cases you won’t have to suffer the always-connected UPlay DRM, but there is a one-time game activation that requires an Internet connection. [IS]
