Before doing the update process, you have to make sure that your Galaxy Note has been already installed with at least Android 4.0.4 (Ice Cream Sandwich). It-™s highly recommended to back up the whole data first since this process requires you to format all of the data on your phone. Also, you need to install Samsung Kies on your laptop or computer. Lastly, see whether you have attached the microSD card on your device.

For those of you who own the first generation of Galaxy Note (N7000) and look for the Jelly Bean update, then you may want to check the following step-by-step guide on how to update Galaxy Note to Jelly Bean 4.1.2 on your own.

This update process will require you to root the Galaxy Note first. To do it, you have to download cwm.zip and SU-Busybox-Installer.zip and then save those files on microSD card. Set your phone to the Sistem Recovery mode by pressing and holding the Up Volume + Power + Home simultaneously. The device will restart and wait until you see the System Recovery screen (here you can stop pressing those buttons).

Opt for the "apply update from external storage” menu and then look for the cwm.zip file that you’ve previously saved on microSD card. Press the Up or Down Volume button to navigate and use the Power Off button to select the file. When you’re on the CWM (ClockworkMod Recovery) screen, select the "Install Zip from SD card”, then opt for the "Zip from Internal SD card”, and then install SuperSU.zip. If everything’s okay, you can choose "reboot system now” and that’s it you have successfully rooted your device.

Now, you have to modify the kernel of your own device. Firstly, download the Mobile ODIN Lite from XDA. Remember that the Mobile ODIN will download some files so it requires data package or WI-Fi connection. Then, you need to download SpeedMod Kernel and then save it to the internal or external storage. Next, you can now install and open the Mobile ODIN (choose the Grant Access option and let it download any files if needed). Click for the Kernel and then direct it to the SpeedMod Kernel that you’ve previously saved on internal or external storage. Lastly, opt for the Flash Firmware option and now you have done rooting the device.

To update your Galaxy Note to Jelly Bean, you have to download the ROM Jelly Bean 4.1.2 (700 mb) and you can download here. When you have finished downloading the ROM, you need to save it to your microSD card. Go to the System Recovery Mode for once again and then select "Wipe Data/Factory Reset”, "Wipe Cache Partition”, "Install Zip” and then look for the ROM file that you’ve previously downloaded. [IS]
