Motorola released its unique and innovative touch-screen Smartphone in United States called the Motorola Backflip MB300. The innovation of the company to this mobile device is the unlike other flip design. Until now, the flip style of Motorola Backflip became its typical characteristic known by many mobile users.

The design of Motorola Backflip can be considered as unordinary flip design. In the normal position, the keypad is located at the back side of the phone, but when the front screen is flipped to the back then the position of screen and keyboard becomes similar with the PDA slide keypad. The dimension of this phone is 53 mm in height, 108 mm in width, 15.3 mm in depth and 133 grams in weight.

The display of Motorola Backflip features a 3.1-inch TFT LCD capacitive touch-screen with 256.000 colors and resolution of 320x480 pixels. The phone has been equipped with Gorilla glass display, accelerometer sensor for UI auto-rotate, reverse flip with QWERTY keyboard, backtrack touch panel, MOTOBLUR UI with Live Widgets, and proximity sensor for auto turn-off.

The performance of this Smartphone is powered by the 528 MHz Qualcomm processor which can be over-clocked to 748 MHz. In addition, the phone is packed with a memory of 256 MB RAM. In term of operating system, the device is originally equipped with Android OS 1.5 but it is upgradable to 2.1 versions.

In term of multimedia factor, the Motorola Backflip is equipped with a 5 megapixels camera with autofocus, LED flash and geo-tagging features. It can capture image with the maximum quality of 2592 x 1944 pixels of resolution. The camera is also able to record video with CIF quality at 30 frames per second. The audio player supports for MP3, WAV, eAAC, WMA9 file formats and the video player supports for WMV, H.263, H.264, WMV9 video formats. To store the multimedia formats, the phone is packed with an internal storage of 512 MB ROM (2 GB included) and a removable storage micro SD card with up to 32 GB of capacity.

For connectivity, this Smartphone supports for GPRS Class 12 (32 - 48 kbps), EDGE Class 12 HSDPA (3G) networks (850/ 900/1900/2100) with up to 7.2 Mbps of data speed. For wireless connection the phone features Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g. For connecting to other device or data transferring, the device also supports for Bluetooth v.2.1 with A2DP and micro USB 2.0 version.

From the review above, it can be concluded that Motorola Backflip is worth to buy since it has almost all of the Smartphone’s impressive features. Nevertheless, the phone is slightly overweight, it has a poor quality of photo and battery life and it still uses the outdated Android OS platform. [IS]
